(To the future)
blink - a faster, fairer exchange
[THE BRIEF]
blink is a spot and perpetuals exchange that runs on a physical server instead of the cloud. This way you get the speed of a Wall Street trade, and everyone gets the same length of fiber, so nobody can buy their way to a faster connection.
[THE MISSION]
An exchange that starts at the beginning again needs a brand that reflects that. A brand should show what a company stands for, not look like every other one in the space.
So we started with a strategy workshop before touching any design. Purpose, positioning, personality. blink as the honest challenger to Binance and Coinbase, accessible to a market maker and to someone who has only ever bought an ETF. Every decision after that had a reason behind it.
[THE IMPACT]
- Over $1.7 million raised in the seed round
- Over 1,000 waitlist signups before launch
- Ten weeks from workshop to live site
- Still on the product, heading into the next funding round
[THE PROCESS - BRAND]
Around 90% of crypto brands look the same. Dark, techy, made for insiders. Trading isn't something you do in your basement anymore, it's part of people's daily life, and like with running people want to identify with the lifestyle behind it. Most crypto brands lose users by staying too niche.
We went through a few directions, some playful, some more natural, and landed on minimal tech built on warm and grounded colors. Old scientific illustration against soft modern gradients. It reads closer to a running brand than to an exchange, which is the whole point.
Underneath it sits a symbiosis between the physical and the digital, the natural and the artificial, the old and the new. That came straight out of the product.
[THE PROCESS - WEBSITE]
blink's advantage is invisible. Nobody can see 200 microseconds, and nobody signs up for a number they don't understand.
So instead of shouting about speed, the site walks you through the path an order actually takes, with animated icons by Cayo doing the explaining. Unique enough to be worth sharing, simple enough to convert. Custom built by Edo, because a site about microsecond execution can't stutter on scroll.
[THE PROCESS - EXCHANGE]
Two ways to get a trading interface wrong. Copy the old exchanges and inherit their mess, or reinvent everything and make traders relearn their job.
We stayed close to what people already know and put the work into what usually gets ignored. Hierarchy, density, numbers you can read under pressure, states that tell you what's happening to your money.
Underneath it is a design system with full token architecture and custom components built for this product. Five exchange pages, each past twenty screens with all states, plus the trade page on mobile.
[THE RESULT]
A brand that looks like nothing else in crypto, a pre launch site that pulled over 1,000 people onto the waitlist, and an exchange that shipped as a system instead of a pile of screens.
And a seed round of over $1.7 million closed on the back of it.
[THE FUTURE]
Product design continues. More exchange pages, mobile beyond the trade view, and the system growing as blink moves toward public launch and the next round.
